Ruth Sugden | Mindfulness Practitioner & Educator

For many years I was a community (district) nurse and came into medical education through my work as a clinical tutor for nursing and medical students.  Now I mainly work with final year medical students especially those who struggle with their studies. I have my own mindfulness practice and this led me to train – at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre – as a teacher of mindfulness, so that I could support medical students in their lives, work and studies. I teach a Mindfulness for Medics course to third year students and I run a well-attended weekly Mindful Half Hour for faculty staff. I’m currently working to introduce mindfulness to all medical students at King's College London.

Dr Kerry Boardman | General Practitioner & Medical Educator

I am an Academic GP, combining clinical work with medical education.  My focus is on good communication and person-centred clinical and educational approaches.   I have worked with children, students and adult learners and have a particular interest in supporting struggling learners and making learning fun.  I am also a keen crafter and dance fan and know, from personal and professional experience, the importance of self-care and finding the right life-work balance.

I have both an academic and practical interest in what makes us healthier. How do we live the lives that we want to live, and become the people that we would like to be? We are all influenced by our social and physical environment, as well as our personal psychology and physiology; but by using evidence-based techniques and strategies we can all begin to engage positively in our own health and wellbeing. I teach health coaching to nurses and doctors in primary care, and I conduct research into how these techniques can be used to support people who want to lose weight.
